      1.   Wabi-Sabi 

One of the long-term staples in interior design trends is the Japanese art of Wabi-sabi and as 2024 approaches, it is once again predicted to be in the limelight. 

Essentially, Japanese Wabi-sabi centres around the acceptance of everything that is imperfect in home design, with asymmetrical lines and contrasting colours and patterns. However, most crucially, Wabi-sabi is focused on authenticity, so any faux-vintage pieces should be avoided, and in their place, gems should be found in second-hand and antique shops. 

      2.   Limestone Flooring

Another huge trend and one that has been increasing in popularity at an impressively rapid rate, is having limestone flooring in one or more rooms. The benefits of choosing floor tiles made of limestone are too numerous to mention, but include the following as an example:

       3.   Indoor Greenery

If you’re looking for a way of revolutionising your living room, adding some life and light to the kitchen or are even wanting a more natural feel to your bedroom, the cheapest and indeed, one of the most effective, options is to embrace indoor greenery. 

Not only do indoor plants, real ones, of course, rather than artificial, serve to improve your mood on a daily basis, but they also help to reduce tiredness and fatigue, aid pain tolerance, reduce the chance of tension headaches and migraines, and even improve respiratory ailments as they make the air cleaner and fresher throughout the home. 

In the UK, the best plants to keep indoors that have a real chance of not only surviving, but thriving, in such an environment include rubber figs, peace lilies, devil’s ivy, prayer plants, dragon trees, and orchids.  

      4.   Ruffles, Feathers, & Frills

The fourth and final biggest design trend pipped to take the interior design world by storm at the beginning of 2024 is ostentatious ruffles, feathers, and frilly trims. 

Gone are the days when everything needed to be kept to an absolute minimum, and now, the fancier and indeed, bolder, the soft furnishings and furniture pieces throughout your home are, the better. 

For the cushions on your bed, your children’s beds and even the tablecloth in the dining room, it’s time to experiment and embrace the entertaining and whimsical, with fluffy details and even coloured feather lampshades as a centrepiece.
